They Took Her Sweet Time: Chapter 1
John Scully pushed open the large brass door of the Midtown, Atlanta office building where he worked and rushed out into the early evening. He was late for a date with his wife.
Honking traffic swirled around him. He ran for the street corner and arrived just as the pedestrian signal flashed a red Don’t Walk. Stopping, he frowned as several risk-takers ran past him and made it securely to the other side. He was already fifteen minutes late; respecting the rules meant he’d be two minutes later, but it was a good tradeoff for safety. For a moment, he wished he could turn back the clock a half hour. The green Walk man released him, and he ran across to the structure where his car was parked.
Ten minutes later, John arrived at Piedmont Park, pulling his green Miata into a spot beside Suzanna’s little white Audi. He raced around Lake Clara Meer with its graceful stone bridge and elegant gazebo, then up a small hill.
