Desperate for money to close the deal of a lifetime, twenty-six-year-old Georgia accountant Dylan Waldorf discovers he’s inherited part-ownership in a struggling Los Angeles cannabis dispensary and decides to go out to California and arrange for its sale. In the process of turning Kushland around, Dylan finds himself immersed in an industry like no other. He travels with a half million dollars cash to City Hall to pay Kushland’s taxes (surrounded by Israeli Defense Force bodyguards), is kidnapped by rival cannabis dealers and must defend himself in a mock-trial, and inherits a mysterious cat with a perfect record of picking the store's cannabis products.
Kushland: Chapter 1
"Where are you taking me?" she asked, her voice smooth and rich like fine bourbon.
Dylan Waldorf glanced over as the light from a passing street lamp momentarily illuminated her swept-back blonde hair and her deep blue eyes the color of Lake Lanier. "It's a surprise, Petra," he said. He arched one eyebrow, enjoying being mysterious, and she smiled.
Turning off the main highway, they drove past an empty gatehouse and a sign that read, Welcome To The Farm At Old Kennesaw.
"Oh, my God," Petra said. "You bought a house at the Farm?" They entered a section of large, newly-built homes, very similar to one another. "Which one did you buy?" Her head turned from left to right to left. "Is it this one? This one?"
“Nope.” He shook his head. “Nope.”
His pulse quickened as they climbed a slow rise and entered a section of partially built structures, many just wood studs. Most had bare dirt where their lawns would be. Petra glanced back over her shoulder and fell silent…
